Read the link...so it might be the spring in the steering pump valve. How about quick ratio steering? I heard you could modify or retrofit with a JY quick ratio steering box...anyone done that?

I found a link to a company in AZ that will do yours for $170 but I recall Bob Moore (RIP) talking about buying auto parts store components (Camaro?) and rebuilding them.
