I had to replace a wheel seal on my old 65 C/50. I just cleaned up the shoes with alcohol. (we wuz pore)
No problems at all, except a little while later was coming off a long steep mountain pass with a 10x50 mobile home behind. That side did some smoking so I guess I burned off the rest of the gear oil residue
Hauled logs with the truck for about five years after that and never did another thing with the brakes.
