That "8" is actually a "3". A quick search states it's for a '66-'79 Big Block Chevy.
Type GM 3947709 into google and you will find many different links on it. By reading them all, you should probably gather together enough info to figure out exactly what you have there in detail.

Sweet, do you know what standard your adapter is?
I did know this was not a Chevy pattern and an adapter was required, but I cannot find which standard this pattern is.
I have a 5-speed out of a 72 C70 with an SAE 2 bellhousing, but this is not even close to an SAE 2.
I have a 5.9 Cummins with an SAE 3 adapter and dimensionally this is close but still not correct for a SAE 3.
This housing does not match the dimensions of any of the SAE's that I am familiar with.
Are there others that I am not aware of?
Did Chevy/GMC use a specific SAE adapter or something proprietary?
