Still researching joggled vs butt welded joins. However, the Guru has suggested Joggling

I need to clean up both fender panels on both sides and deconstruct them as far as needs to be gone.

Then decide what I have to work with.

There are oceans of filler there, and if you recall the original lower control arm, the truck was in a decent shunt at some point, so it could have included sheetmetal too.

So there could be some more surprises hidden under all the red shiny paint
