I know you can convert a delco window type dizzy to HEI relatively easily. IH guys do it sometimes to get HEI on an IH for cheap (alternative involves milling and stuff to make an IH dizzy from an existing HEI).
My money's on that he had a dizzy with a tach drive that he converted to HEI.
