I also have the Walbro 255 inline external pump in my 49 pickup with a 5.3. Mine is wrapped in rubber to help with the whining noise but it is still annoying. Mine is bolted to the inner side of the frame. I contacted Walbro and they basically told me that is the nature of the beast when you run an external pump.
