^^^^^ I'd have to believe that is the issue.

First, do you actually have a 235? That sounds a bit strange to ask but we have too many folks who assume that they have something when they have something else.

The rings for the intake ports on a 235 pressure oil engine won't fit in a 216 head and the 216 rings flop around in a 235 head.

Lets assume though that someone swapped in a 235 long block and used the 216 manifolds. I think I did that on my brother's 48 Chev 1 ton.
