I've got one behind a cammed 5.3L, but haven't run it yet and never plan on any racing and I wouldn't think if putting slicks behind it. I did meet a trans builder from Texas who says he's had some luck with them on some higher horsepower street cars...but 500 horses would probably bring a quick death.
If you want to see the parts list of how I did this check out my "Popeye" build thread and search around here for NP833. I listed out the exact parts. If you don't have a good unit with a solid, non-worn front bearing retainer don't bother. Also, you have to check runout on the bellhousing...it's a must.
