That's true. The pedal effort for manual disc was a
bit higher than for manual drum, but not something really bad. AND, if the vehicle quits for whatever reason, the brakes still work the same. My wife was lucky when our 2000 Astrovan quit due to a failed fuel pump. The brakes and the steering were both hard to handle, but she happened to be getting off the freeway at a long off ramp with no traffic, and managed to wrestle it to a stop with no power assist from the steering or the brakes (hydraboost).
