Course that wasn't enough, so on some they slapped on the 400 emblem, SPID read 396, and featured a 402 under the hood, and/or any variation of the three. Make sense?

From what I read they created those to salvage a flaw in a whole bunch of off the assembly line 396 blocks. They were bored over to avoid them being junked.
