To me, 10K does not seem out of line for what you describe. It boils down to supply and demand. The demand for pickups is much higher, but so is the supply. For the relative few who prefer Suburbans and panels, the supply is very thin by comparison. This would seem to kinda even out the price game a bit, but not really.
From my personal experience, finding just the right Suburban is going to be much harder than a pickup, so it might pay to snag the one you like when you see it, at what ever price it takes to get it.
Patience is key, and so is knowing what you want. I say learn what years came with what engines, options, colors, and trim, and build the ideal truck in your head. Then when you see that truck or a close match come up for sale (in a condition you can handle), grab it!
