one of mine is bent slightly (from backing into a pole with the end gate up), lubing it helps. also be sure the slides are lubed.

I recently had my rear window out, i was surprised how light and easy to open the upper gate was without glass in it. if i every need to replace it i will get some light weight lexan or plexiglass.

the 1963 shop manual has instructions to adjust the hinge to center and flush the door to the body. I think your door would have to be way out of adjustment to make it stiff to close. maybe you have too thick weatherstripping or its placed wrong?

no weather-stripping on the clam doors.. but ill try the pin idea tonight.
