I have two longhorns sitting here that have the same setup. Not sure why they spot welded the brackets in. If you look off to the outside of the brackets I believe the mounting holes are there for a normal one to screw in. Makes me think they ran out of screws on Friday afternoon and just spotted them in instead

Before you decide on that let me take a quick look in the search. I seem to recall a thread, about a year ago, that said someone was selling just the new plastic guides. Let me see if I can find it
