67/68 full cover hubcaps
Has anyone bought a set of the 67/68 full cover caps at hubcaps.com? I think I saw a while back that someone had bought one cap (not a set) as a replacement.
I have been watching for a mint set of original caps, but had no luck. I have seen a few NOS sets and singles, but they were all scratched to some degree. How do the repops look and fit? (I can't seem to get anyone interested in repaining the originals. And I don't think I have the skill/ self-confidence to do it right, particularly without practice pieces.) Thanks. |

Re: 67/68 full cover hubcaps
I was wondering the same thing too - It says on the hubcaps.com website that: "These are used hubcaps in new condition" - does that mean they don't have any scratches or dents etc... ? I'm looking for a nice set for my restored 70, with the blue bowtie like the picture below. If I'm going to have to spend $350 on the "used" ones - they better look pretty darn good !!!

Is someone reproducing these "wheelcovers"?

Re: 67/68 full cover hubcaps
The ones on hubcaps.com are restored originals. I haven't seen anyone reproducing these - if someone knows of anybody doing it, please post the information here. Thanks !!!

I guess I did not read their website closely enough. It does say they are used rather than reproductions. My mistake. Regardless, had anybody bought a set? Thanks.

Re: 67/68 full cover hubcaps
I haven't,but I checked them out a lot. Then, one day I peeked at Ebay. I'm not an Ebay junky,I only check when I'm bored. There was a set of GMCs on there with about a day left. It didn't say anything about N.O.S. (so it didn't attract the wheeler dealers) but if they aren't I'll eat my hat. Maybe one bid and it was like $45. I put in a maximum bid of a bit over $100 and at the last few minutes one guy kept trying to out bid me $10 at a time but ran out of time. I got my set for sixty something. My point is,you can grab some nice ones (I'd think) from Hubcaps.com and pay the price or keep an eye out and with patience grab a deal. I was casually looking for a couple years.

Re: 67/68 full cover hubcaps
Ive never seen a mint set of the Chevy caps. I looked for quite a while. I have five so far. They are pretty decent, a good set to have restored someday. I should also say they are not for sale in case I made it sound that way =)

Re: 67/68 full cover hubcaps
I also bought a set of 69-75 GMC covers for $40 at a swap meet last summer. They are all presentable with the chrome fad and some pits. But one looks mint. I imagine it was a replacement that saw very few miles. It could pass for N.O.S. My point is,I got one as good as hubcaps.com offers (better since it's not restored) for less than 1/2 their price and the rest of a set to use till better ones can be rotated in. I now have 2 sets,5 N.O.S. and 3 in very good condition, for about what one from that website costs. Keep on searchin' the parts board, swap meets,Craigslist, etc. If I found rarer GMCs,I know Chevys are out there.
