1986 silverado dual fuel tank system

so i am going to replace both my tanks and sending units and the fuel tank selector valve "which i have no choice but to use a universal one" i cant find a true aftermarket replacement. i am being told that i have to install a after market switch does anyone know if i can just use the factory installed switch?

and i am having trouble with my fuel gauge its all over the place either on empty or pegged past full. if you tap on the gauge bezzel the gauge will i assume read the actual fuel level. i have tried to taking the cluster out of the dash and cleaning and tighting the connections but there is no change.

any ideas thank for all your help!!!!

Re: 1986 silverado dual fuel tank system

AutoZone lists 2 types of replacement valves.one($49.99),you have to use a different switch, and the more expensive($89.99),has an adapter,to accept the stock wiring.GM no longer offers a replacement.
As for your gauges,it,s probably the same thing mine did,and I ended up putting in an extra ground, on EACH gauge, and running them to a single ground wire, and to a good ground on the body.
Those little "pinch-type" connectors, that the gauge pins slide into, lose their tension, and a simple bump can break the ground contact, causing you to "tap" the bezel,to get it working.

LMC has one that was EXACTLY the replacement for what I had. Check their versions.

I got both the fuel switch and selector valve at my local Napa. I probably paid more than I should have, but they had them in stock.
