Frame paint?

Just got my frame pretty much all stripped down and im looking for a good paint, but not sure what to use.
Its going on a 4x4 k10 frame that will be in the mud and woods alot but i want something that will hold up decently to some abuse.
I was thinking get the frame sandblasted and primed then use POR-15, but it says to just clean the frame and apply directly to the rust.
Ive also heard of some people using a tractor implement paint but im not sure how well that would hold up, i just need some opinions on what i should use.

Re: Frame paint?

Read the chemicals in the paint. ISOCYANATES(sp) are BAD news. Gloves and a GOOD quality respirator are a must. Good luck, Ron

Re: Frame paint?

POR 15 works great just follow the instructions to a tee. Knock the loose rust off then use the cleaner, prep and paint.

Chassis Saver is the stuff that I use now. Less prep and harder paint.

Re: Frame paint?

i used RUST BULLET as first coat and rustolem black satin as top coat...the specs on rust bullet are impresive and require little prep. the rust bullet does not require a top coat to be uv resistant like por15 does, but is silver in color so i went with black satin top coat and i can rattle can any needed touch up or small parts along the way. from what i gather the por15 requires exstensive prep or failure may occur and will fade as it is not uv resistant, so u would have to top coat anyways..........just my 2 cents....others may know different...........

Re: Frame paint?

Ditch the POR15. Use ZeroRust. Works way better. I like it.

Re: Frame paint?

so with most of these products i should not get my frame blasted, How do u think the paint would stick because the front of my frame (back cab mounts forward) still has paint on it, not sure if its factory or not i think it might be.

Re: Frame paint?

I sandblasted my frame & shot it (along with tranny & t-case) with spray on under coating from Auto Zone. We used 2 cases on the frame, tranny, t-case and bottom of the cab, which cost right around $150.

I like the Eastwood products myself- Rust Encapsulator, Chassis Black, Underhood Black. They've always worked well for me.

Re: Frame paint?

That's how I understand the instructions on the extreme primer, too. I've not used it but I have sprayed the chassis black over the Rust Encapsulator, I use it a lot for primer.

Awesome stuff here, you can brush is on and it lays out flat (no brush strokes) when it drys.
