Sway bar

I am thinking of adding an original sway bar to my C10. Does anyone know if this improves the handling enough to justify the work. Also, if they were factory installed they were riveted, do I have
To drill out a rivet on the frame and bolt it where the rails meet the front x member?

Re: Sway bar

Yes it's worth it, and yes you have to grind/drill out the rivets. I used bolts and lock washers. Mine was a kit from cpp for 120$ and came with everything I needed. Came with stock height and lowered brackets. Ive heard really low truck have had probs with the cpp kit. Whatever kind you get you will feel a difference. Also it's not much work, takes about thirty min.

Re: Sway bar

you can bolt the sway bar in and remove it if origonality becomes an issue. you can also rivet it in too. there are vendors that sell rivets . I know they advertise in corvette tech forums but cannot find the actual one that sells them.

hunt for them and you will find them.

a front sway bar dramaticaly improves safe handleing; a rear one somewhat less so.

As mentioned above, I completely agree. This is perhaps the best upgrade I have done to the old truck for the money spent. 2 hour install with a grinder. I also used the CPP sway bar. The handling improvement was tremendous!

Re: Sway bar

Regarding suspension the sway bar is easily the most drastic improvement you can make on these trucks. Some will say you HAVE to get the large sway bar, but for normal driving conditions you'll notice a bigger improvement going from no sway bar to the stock diameter, than you will moving from the stock diameter to the beefy 3/4 or 1 ton bar from the 73-87's,

Re: Sway bar

My truck 68, had no sway bar upfront. After looking over the stock set-up went with this Addco bigger bar, also wider so different leverage points applied to the lower control arms. Also even though the control arm mount had a bolt, we both bolted and welded it.

My truck thinks it's a Camaro, always has.

Re: Sway bar

Best bang for the buck you can do to a 67-72 and the difference in handling will amaze you. Any front sway bar for a 73-87 Chev/GMC C10,20 or 30 will fit. The biggest factory one was a 1 3/4 inch diameter and that is the one to get. They usually came a real heavy duty C20's or on the C30's. If your truck does not have one now after you install one you will notice the difference in handling immediately.

Re: Sway bar

I added a front sway bar of a 73-87 truck to my 69 and later added a rear sway bar. The rear sway bar made the most noticeable difference.

Re: Sway bar

We just added the front cpp kit to the 71 with ece 4/6 drop....we used the included lowered brackets....had to shorted the end link spacer to clear the tie rod arms....

Night and day difference in handling...rear kit going in next...
