What's the spring behind the seat for?
So, I'm stripping my '72 K5, getting it ready for paint, and I've come to the long spring located behind the driver's seat. I'm trying to decide if I should remove it and fill the holes, or leave it in and paint the hooks. I have no idea what it is for. The PO put in Corbeau seats, so maybe it had something to do with the stock seats? Anyway, I'd appreciate it if someone can tell me the purpose of the spring, so I can decide if I want to keep it. Thanks.

It's for the jack I believe.

Behind the drivers seat is for the tire iron and the jack handle. The jack goes behind the rear seat, under the spare tire carrier. If you're not using it now, you probably never will. Personaly, I would just leave it, or remove it and fill the holes with the factory bolts; just in case you ever decide to put it back in.

Thanks. I'll probably pull it completely, since the only jack I have is a Hi-Lift that sure won't fit there, and eventually I hope to put in a wood bed, and the trim "L-angle" will want to go there to cover the edge of the bed. Thanks for the replies.
