Bedside question

I have a 1965 stepside short wheelbase GMC. My question is about the piece of "L" metal (usually vehicle color) on the sides of the bedfloor. Are they supposed to be welded to the bedside? I see some pics where they are chrome so obviously not fastened at all like mine currently are. I see pics with some bolts going through out into the fender area (wouldn't where the tire actually is). I see some pics of bed wood replacements where this "L" is obviously welded to it. Mine are currently not affixed in any way and tend to rattle at idle in gear. It is a little annoying/embarrassing. Just looking to shut it up and looking for the common way to attach them together.

Thanks,

Adam

Re: Bedside question

Those are angle strips; yes those are welded to the bedsides. You can even weld stainless to the plain bedsides.
Check out the info at Mar K

Re: Bedside question

They also sell stainless covers that go over the originals.
