Trailer towing in WI with Collector Plates?

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this or not, and it really only applies to fellow Wisconsinnites, or maybe those that used to live here, or I suppose even those that enjoy studying Wisconsin DMV regulations...

Anyway, my C20 has collector plates. We recently got a horse and will need to trailer it around. Does anybody know what the rules are for towing with collector plates in Wisconsin? I know you're not supposed to carry more than 500# of cargo, but I can't find anything in the Wisconsin DMV site specifically about towing a trailer. I've been thinking about re-registering it as a normal truck, anyways, due to the 500# cargo limit, which I've been over numerous times. It's one thing if I get in trouble for hauling too much weight around, its another if my wife gets in trouble for pulling her horse trailer around, if you know what I mean.

Second question: Does anybody know what's involved in re-registering a truck as a regular truck that was previously registered as a collector vehicle?

And yes, I am aware that getting legal advice off of the internet is probably not quite the best way to go about this. I promise I'll get supporting information from the powers that be prior to doing anything illegal...

Re: Trailer towing in WI with Collector Plates?

Ok, then. I'll answer my own question, in case anybody else tries to look this up on here. I called the DMV.

In Wisconsin, with collector plates, a bumper pull trailer is acceptable no matter what weight the trailer (more than 3000# and you need a trailer license, though). If you use a gooseneck hitch or a 5th wheel, then you can't use the collector plates, as you will likely be running the cargo limit up past the 500# allowed with the collector plates. For me, once Old Mustard gets put back together, I'll just go back to the regular plates rather than take a chance getting caught. Plus, I end up hauling more than 500# in the bed from time to time, anyway.
