Fastest production pickup

I am interested in building a muscle pickup. I'd like to start with the fastest production model Chevy or GMC between 2000 and 2006. Any suggestions?

Re: Fastest production pickup

Buy a early 2000 2wd pick up, and cram a Duramax and allison combo in it. Power and torque, it should scream!!!

Or buy that v10 viper truck dodge made, hold crap that was fast.

Re: Fastest production pickup

Buy an 06 2500HD, regular cab, long box, 2WD with a Duramax.

Spend $2000 on EFI live, air intake, exhaust, and some transmission updates and go and have fun!

Re: Fastest production pickup

I would chose the body style/era of truck you like the most aesthetically and build up from there.

Personally, regular cab short beds are associated with the sporty image. That's why I chose to build one.

Re: Fastest production pickup

99-07 classic regular cab short bed 5.3/auto 4wd.

Add supercharger or turbo(front mount best, but sts will work), 3K stall converter, Transgo HD2 shift kit with billet servos, big trans cooler, good posi in back good tune. Then have fun with plenty of room for upgrades

Re: Fastest production pickup

I have a dream of building a '67 fleetside shortbox with a big cube small block and a T56 manual. To me that is the ultimate muscle sport truck.

I liked the 03 & 04 front ends when they came out and I liked the smoothed hood & grills of the 05-07's even more. I feel the 03-07 GM's have some styling cues from the 67-70's GM trucks. Specifically in the grill area.

The 08+ GM trucks are extremely nice, I have a 2004 'Hot Rod' and a 2009 'Work Truck' The 09 is the perfect road trip machine, and with a mild computer tune I'm getting a average of 23mpg with the 5.3L/4L60E

is the stepside bed the reason for the gain? less weight?

Re: Fastest production pickup

I know this doesn't fall into your year range, but the 6.2 403 hp Ext Cab is the fastest they make now.If you order it with the Max Trailering Package you get the 3.73 g80 gears. It will run 14's off the show room floor!

Re: Fastest production pickup

I would also have to say that the SVT was the fastest from the factory w/o mods.

Re: Fastest production pickup

Syclone and Typhoon are definatly fast and cool.

After about 2 minutes with google, I didnt try very hard
Fastest American production truck title belongs to the Dodge SRT10. Fastest in current production goes to the Chevy/GMC with the 6.2.

To the OP, I don't want to jack your thread. 66red/white, if you are making a typhoon clone you should check out www.syty.net there are several guys out there making clones or doing LSX swaps.
