good color for these trucks?

I am a first time painter working on the truck after school. Im wondering what colors are easy to paint and just look right on these trucks. Pics would be awesome! And I have heard light colors don't show as much. Is this true?

Re: good color for these trucks?

Yes that is true, they do show as much and the also tell everyone that you did not take the time to do the proper prep work on it before the paint. I mean no offence but dark colors will show everything. Dark colors also say that you took the time to make it look good.

Have you ever seen the "all it needs it paint' primered up cars/trucks for sale. You cant see poor body work with dull primer.

As far as color selection, take the time to do the proper prep and paint it whatever color you like. Personally, I like ochre / white because that's what color my 72 is.

Re: good color for these trucks?

a black truck is like a mirror...and it shows every dent ,wave ,and ripple in its reflection...the lighter you go lessens the effect.for a first timer stay away from metallics as poor technique or equipment can cause 'stripes' in the paint and metallic runs really stand out ,especially on single stage.screwups can be wet sanded out of solid colors much more easily

Depends on what you're going for; Two-tone or all one color. I prefer Two-tones on a 67-72, but there are some nice One-Color trucks out there. As a first time Painter I would stick to a Red or Blue. Easy colors to apply and if you're going to Two-tone then you might want to use what I have as a template. I've always liked the White Top and White Face on our trucks. In order to paint Black your body MUST be PERFECT, and I mean absolutely PERFECT.
Good luck and remember to SHOW US YOUR PICS when you're done. Everyone on this site loves to see PICS.

Any color you want! Well, except for brown, it's illegal to paint them brown.

Seafoam green looks real nice. My 69 was stock that color, I painted it guards red about 15 years ago and am thinking of going back to the green.

Re: good color for these trucks?

I thought about painting my '67 the colors of the truck in the first picture since my first truck when I turned 16 was these colors. I decided not too since the truck pictured first is my daughter-in-law's.

It is light blue with a white roof.

I do like the color combination though.

On mine we decided to go a whole different direction since it was no where near a stock build. It has an orange interior to match the orange strips. I have to admit the interior is pretty bright and almost hurts one's eyes.

Like many have said go with the colors that you like and compliment the type of build you are going for.

Re: good color for these trucks?

Since it's a '69,paint it 511 Turquoise Poly. It's a GMC-only color,but we won't tell. Or 529 Medium Blue Green Poly or 512 Dark Blue Green Poly. '70 colors but,again,we won't tell
