Hey guys, I am thinking about doing a 5/7 static drop on my 90 Ext-cab SWB & was wondering what kinda stuff I may run into

I plan to cut one round off the front coils & use 2" drop spindles, then flip the back & use shackles to get the other inch & notch, box, & beef up the frame around the notch

I have heard that there are mods needed to be done to the LCAs ???
And is there anything above the pumpkin that needs to be modded ??? (like a X-member)

If you're going to run those 15" rally wheels, you will have to "trim" the lower control arms. It's not a big deal but a hoist makes the job a lot easier. You will probably only get about a 2" drop by removing a full coil. You may want to go with a proper drop spring.... It's pretty tough to take 3" out of the stock springs without compromising the suspension.

We did a 5/7 on my old roomates 92 single-cab. Not sure as far as comparing it to an ECSB but . . .....

We originally used a Bell Tech 4/6 kit but he wanted it lower. I trimmed a coil of the stock springs plus the spindles for the 5" drop. We did have to trim a support over the pumpkin from what I remember (we also used BT shackles).

For wheels, he had 15x6.5 van ralleys so it only req'd a 'shave' to prevent contact @ the a-arm & 15x8 truck ralleys out back w/the edge of the fender lip shaved (it cleared but was very close so we shaved it for insurance).

I'm running the 6 inch wheels off of my 84 on my 90, with a 6" drop, 2 inch spindles and cut lowering springs. I have not run into problems with the rims hitting the control arms. If you need to know the backspacing I'll measure it when I get home.

You might need to notch the bed cross brace for the shackles to clear.. We did on my 88 LWB extra cab and I "think" we did it on my 97 SWB CC, but I can't remember for sure.

That a pretty short tire @ 26.6" tall. A 275-60 would be a better choice @ 28" tall.

You'll need to trim the bottom of the LCA, both front and back to clear the rim (and wheel weights, if any). Best bet is to get it off the ground and turn the wheels from side to side... It's a bit of a "trim to fit" exercise based on what rims you are running. Make sure you support the truck with the control arms. If the suspension is hanging, you won't get a proper "read" on where the rims will rub.

No need for me to buy you new ones when many used tire places will do some 'tradin' for different sizes. You might still spend some money, but it beats having too short of a tire on a truck you're trying to set-up w/some 'stance'.

It doesn't matter if a ride has 15" steel wheels or 22's. Ask anyone on this board that has a truck that has that 'look' & they'll say tire & wheel sizing can make or break your efforts.

A 90's vintage GM truck w/some 15" ralleys? 15x6.5 van ralleys w/215-70's & 15x8" truck ralleys w/275-60's. Pop some Astro-van center caps for a cool billet wheel type look for cheap. 215-65's will offer more room up front but will again be short..... Just another opinion that doesn't matter
