If I am correct, this drum is one unit- meaning the hub housing is attatched to the drum, one unit???

I trashed my 68 axle or i'd give you one, please refer to the rules though before searching for parts.

No, drum should seperate fron the hub. You may have to knock out the wheel studs, but they shoud come apart.

Front and rear drum are the same part, if I remember correctly. Therefore, the drum must be a slip on item.

I don't know why but they are not the same. This even has the brake shop ( 30years + exp.) stumped and looking all over the country.

I finally contacted my Dad today and he said he got them from the Chevy dealer. So I called the Chevy dealer, they have discontinued everything prior to 73. And don't have old part #'s

The brake shop got one in on the UPS truck this morning and he told me he would try it and call me when it was complete. No phone call, must not have fit.

I think I found one on LMC, I'll call them and talk to a tech before I order it.

This is a strange one guy's, I'll try to get pics in the morning.

I had a hard time finding front 4x4 drums for my '67 Chevy K/10 Suburban. I think I paid about $100 each for them 15 years ago. I thought it was a '60 to '67 part. I thought they went to the Dana 44 w/front disc brakes in '69?

It's a 70 cst and it was ordered with drums by my Dad. Discs were too New School for him I guess.

I thought all 70 trucks were front drum brakes. On the 2 wheel drive version, the drum is riveted to the hub. The rivets can be cut to allow the drum to slip on/off. Could this be true of the 4X4 drum too?

I don't have a '69 or '70 K-series truck, so I can't say definately what was what. Maybe the D44 was an option.
Not to flame anybody ['cause we're all friends here], but when did you last work on drum brakes, good buddy?
2WD or 4WD, the drum is friction fit onto the lugs [usually 6], sometimes the shoes have to be retracted by reversing the brake self-adjuster pawl to release, but they should slip off. Usually after the gentle persuasion of a BFH.
DonsCST: my '67 K/10 Sub is currently up on jacks while I cannibalize the 12-bolt rear for my '71 Jimmy. When I can get it back on the ground, I'll pull one of the front tires and see if I can lift the p/n stamped on the special early 4x4 drum. Might take a while--
don't hold your breath.
