Exhaust system pics...

Hey guys, many of us have custom exhaust systems.... I'm sure many of us also have pics of the systems when the body was off during out frame-up's. I was wondering if you guys couls post some pictures of your custom systems I currently have glasspacks that turn down under the bed and I'm looking to change the system a bit but need some ideas. Thanks.

Re: Exhaust system pics...

Here's my unfinished cobbled together mess. I plan to exit the tailpipes in front of the rear tires, but I have to get the bed on to make sure exactly where the pipes will turn (90*) out.

Do you have a side shot of how your pipes look coming from under the bed? I think you pretty much have yours ran the way I was wanting to bend mine. Good looking rig btw!

Hedman Elite #68198 for a BB Chevelle - they tuck up WAY farther than truck headers.

Re: Exhaust system pics...

My truck has leaf springs so we ran the tips at a little more of an angle to miss the spring hangers and not cook the spring eye bushings and I ran 18" long 4 " tips so that's all you can see from any angle you look, not any exhaust pipe. The tip's exit looks close to the tire in the side shot, but you can see in the top picture there's inches of clearance.

Mike,

I'm not sure I'm clear on what you did by looking at the photos. Maybe you and your tig welder should swing by long beach CA. and show me. I'd even let you use my truck..I'm a giver...

Re: Exhaust system pics...

I totally agree, Nice TIG work!!

On the headers questions, we have 5 67-72 trucks that all have LS series motors and we found a low cost alternative was to find 2013+ Camaro LS3 manifolds. The OEM Vortec truck manifolds, Suburban, Tahoe, etc all have the flanges that turn outboard and don't clear our narrower 67-72 frames. The New Camaros manifolds tuck inboard, NO frame cutting and they route back and up for greatly enhanced clearances over common Header Collectors. Get the little head pipes between the flange and converters too and you have a great starting point complete with OEM O2 bungs located just where the PCM is used to seeing them also. These manifolds flow well enough to make 436 HP in stock Camaros and lots of guys are putting long tube headers on the Camaros new when they buy it, so they're available and usually cheap. FYI I personally hate anything that hangs below a frame's scrub-line and I live in a cow-town too, my truck thinks its a Camaro and I love to drive it that way.

Do you plan on going through the frame rail on the ex exit?

Re: Exhaust system pics...

My 'plan' (you know how those go...) was to connect the that piece of pipe sticking out in the last pic I posted and turn it out 90* in front of the rear tire with one of those flattened out 'nascar' looking tips or 'boom' tips if you will. Dr. Gas has them. I have a Stepside bed, so they might look cool run out flush with the steps - we shall see. I really wanted to go out the back but there is just not enough real estate back there. I wanted to put the mufflers above the trailing arms too, but my dumb @$$ thought it would be a good idea to add frame bracing there and that took up the little bit of room I had, so that's why the mufflers are tucked up where they are now. It is a super tight fit everywhere, but I do have a plenty of ground clearance.

Here's what it sounds like in case anyone cares https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-ddM4pJG2E and yes, that is through mufflers, just like what's in pic I posted above.

Non exhaust question, your single piece driveshaft. How are you liking that? Is your truck stock height?

I'll most likely go single driveshaft and asking opinions.

Thanks!

Wow that sounds amazing. Your chassis looks great too with the frame stiffening, should be a really solid in the turns.

Yes, I'm running a one piece. All is good up to about 90 mph then I pick up a little vibration, I have a feeling my pinion angle is off a little. No my truck is not stock height, 5" lower in the rear 3" in the front.

Great info on the headers. Those are the ones I'm planning on placing on my BBC.

What are the specs on your cam there?

Thanks,
