Factory Wheels?

I'm having a hard time finding any info on factory wheels. Anyone know what wheels my 72 GMC 1/2 Ton pickup would've had when it rolled off the assembly line? Also could anyone point me in the right direction to finding a set of said wheels? thanks.

Re: Factory Wheels?

id assume the steel wheels is what hes talking about. Get them off the board here or better yet your local junkyard will have a ton of them sitting around. I bought my steel wheels from a yard with good tires on them for 40 bucks.

Re: Factory Wheels?

Do you just need 4 plain steel wheels for your 72 ? If so I can get you some for around $150 but you will have to get the old tires removed .Im going to visit the place that has some this week .

Re: Factory Wheels?

I *think* it would have had 15x6 steel wheels with four nubs for use with dog dish hubcaps, although full wheel covers could also be used. There are relatively many of these around. Most people are running wider tires these days, making the 15x8 version very desirable and overpriced most of the time... if you stick with skinny tires the 6" version will be a lot cheaper.

If you could do that it'd be much appreciated, I've should've specified that I was talking about the steel wheels. I've been looking around and have seen a lot of hubcaps, just not that many wheels themselves. I assumed I was looking in the wrong places and obviously I was.

Re: Factory Wheels?

http://car-part.com/

I had exhausted all of the local wheel and tire dealer references looking for factory steel 16x8 8 lugs and was resigned to the fact that I was going to have to expand my search radius..

I had to enter a newer year to find replacements for my 15" 8-lug snap rings but finally found exactly what I was looking for after talking to about a dozen or so vendors from car-part listings.. a homogeneous set of 4 factory white with just the right amount of patina is on the way right now, only drawback is shipping was more than the cost of the wheels.. well worth it for me though since I finally found exactly what I was looking for..

best part of the search though is all of the places willing to email or text pictures, made it a lot easier to decide.. I was finding plenty of wheels in various conditions, colors, widths, etc.. but I held out for exactly what I was looking for and got lucky..

good luck!

If you could grab them that'd be great, I'm just not sure when I'll be able to meet up with you next.

I didn't realize the one in Canton was this Saturday. As far as I know I'm not busy on Saturday so I'll try to make it up there.

I have two sets that I just had water/glass bead blasted, all 8 rims have 3 nubs & all have 3 1/2" center hole so good for disc bk. & 4x4's. All 8 are 15" with 6 holes each, four are 5 1/2" wide & four are 6" wide but these might be sold. can get pick if interested.
