Chassis
We are getting down to the point of sand Blasting the chassiss of a 1971. Can we get help to what to look for on the frame and any known areas that tends to go bad?

ours had a rotten cross member just ahead of the axel, rotted rear spring hangers and frame tails. made a new cross member,tails. got a spring hanger from vintagechevy.com

Most of the rust I have seen is in the area of the rear cross member (above the rear end housing) and the body mount brackets. Be sure and check the trailing arms if it has coil springs in the rear. The two halves of each one should be tight together with no separation or rust between them. If they have rust between them or rusted out areas along the inside channel they need to be repaired or replaced. I took a pair of them apart by drilling out the spot welds, removed all of the rust from between them and welded them back together. It worked out great.... LockDoc

I encountered the same problem with mine,rear crossmember ahead of the rearend where it meets the frame,aswell as between the 2 halves of the trailing arms.I split the arms and cut out the rust spots,welded in new steel,and bolted the arms back together.Also a little on the upper surfaces of the cabmounts.Blast away!Canada...72 chevy s/b 2wd.
