Brake problems???
I have bled my brakes and they are tight --temporarily. I don't see any leaks. As long as I pump them they work fine. When I hold the brakes they stay tight for about fifteen to twenty seconds, then slowly, the pedal goes to the floor and the brakes release. Also, the brake light comes on. The brake pads are in pretty good condition, about two years old with less than ten thousand miles. Is there any way to test each component or should I replace everything. I would imagine that all of the parts are original. I have owned the Blazer about fifteen years and I know I have only changed the pads. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks David

If there are no leaks, your master cylinder is bad.

 But also keep in mind, even after that is replaced, these things do not stop well anyways, bigger tires sometimes means a 3/4 booster instead of the factory 1/2 ton one, ask me how I know this one personally

Leaky master.
One other thing to consider is those old rubber lines, changing them over to a braided line makes the 'feel' of the pedal WAY better. Welcome to the board, enjoy the ride. That's cool you've had your blazer so long.

I read up on this board while in the middle of changing over to power brakes...I had a good booster from 1/2 ton I took it off and went with a 3/4 ton set up and I cannot believe the the stopping power...What I am trying to say is take this time not only to fix but to improve the system...Well worth any extra money you may be laying out..

Thanks everyone for the info. I bought all new parts and will replace everything. I figured it is worth the effort since it is all original equipment and the brakes are somewhat important. Anyway it is parked until the parts are received and the next few days I will replace my wiring harnesses and hope to get around to my body mounts. In the meantime, I will have to endure driving my wife's Toyota van.
