went to where I used to work today and got a cord(or pretty close to it) of primo yellow cedar.It was fairly wet still and the old girl barely sat down.I've always had 1/2 tons and I'm still amazed at what this thing will carry.

I make a run to our farm in Missouri every year for a truck load of oak, but never that much.

I normally only load it to the top of the bed and will have some left over for the next year. That's quite a load you have and the old girl didn't even squat.

Heck of a load! 67 SS396, you must not burn very much down there in Texas, I burn 15 to 20 pickup loads every winter up here in Wisconsin!! Just put in a wood boiler to heat my house and shop, so we will see how that works this winter.

I'm quite anxous to see what my flatbed will hold after I install the factory overload leafs that I got from fellow member passthebuck.

Great pics, gotta love an ol workhorse Chevy that still looks that friggin nice!!

Now the old girl rides like a Caddillac! Nothing like an extra ton of material to tame the ride on a 3/4 ton truck.

Can you imagine what would happen to a new 3/4T if you did that (whatever make you choose)?

Certainly it would squat, probably to the stops. The bed rails would have dings from the wood stacked above them, and the bed would be dented from the weight. The bedsides would probably bulge outward as the load settled. Wouldn't be surprised to see frame damage if the road got rough.

I know the capacities of the new trucks are good on paper, but IMO our trucks are so over-engineered that they are almost idiot proof. I know I've done things with my C20 that should have broken it, but I needed the work done, and it DID IT!

Thats a great pic!, the truck hardly shows signs of all that load! Yes I agree stickshift, if you tried that with a newer truck it would prob. bulge like a pregnant whale!
