68 trans crossmember

What's the trick to installing this thing? I removed the stock one from my 72 to use on the 68 that surprisingly was missing it. I don't want to remove the cab and exhaust in order to install this. Didn't think I would have to either but.... At this point I might just spent money and buy the tubular type crossmember. It looks like it would be less stressful.

Re: 68 trans crossmember

Is it all still 1 piece or have the rivets been cut making it a 3 piece?

Re: 68 trans crossmember

If the top parts are still there grind off the rivet heads knock them out then place the crossmember under the truck crossways then with the trans jacked up some turn the crossmember into the frame. the motion is like twisting it into placethen when the bottom is in place bolt the top part back up to the crossmember if you choose to a lot of guys leave that step out.
