Hi everybody Happy New Year I got a question regarding steering columns maybe two questions,have anybody ever taken the key and shift components out of a steering column? My 67 came with a S10 steering column in it that has key and shift on it I want to go back to dash key and floor shift. Am I wasting my time with this steering column?Or can something be done with this steering column.
Thanks to this covid-19 bull**** I've since lost my job and trying to continue my build on a budget any help would be much appreciated

No expert but I think you would be better off with a used C/K column in good shape without the ignition switch in it.

I have seen builds that they have filled the shifter holes with JB Weld and sanded them. I do have a an extra auto column. I think I have a floor shift bowl also. If you are interested I could post them for sale later.

I had an off topic truck with a Chevy tilt column with locking key. Truck was a 62 and I thought the key in the column looked off.

I just went on YouTube and found some videos on how to take the column apart. Wasn't a big deal. Covered the area with a metal sleeve I made after removing lock and key, looked pretty decent. I did rewire the entire truck with a kit and just put a key in the dash with an after market stock unit. Wired it up to be a push button start. Turn key to on, push in the modified cigarette lighter to start.

Last year, I bought a '69 manual column for $100 at a junkyard. Wheel was shot from sun exposure, but I could rebuild the column. Look around.

The o/p didn't say, if the s-10 unit in his truck is tilt or not.
but if you scored a 69 tilt unit for 100 bucks that is a score.
