nice 77 K20 18,000 milies (not mine)

Found this on CL this PM. Super nice survivor. ~18,000 miles. Owner says it will sell @ Mecum in KC, Missouri 12/4. http://omaha.craigslist.org/cto/4780067023.html

That's an awesome truck, but that has to be the ugliest rear bumper I have ever seen. Lol I really wish I had the money to buy it!!!!

Re: nice 77 K20 18,000 milies (not mine)

I'll believe that truck has 18k on it when someone proves it with paperwork, that truck is closer to 40 than 30 years old. Kept correctly oil change records would be enough if they were complete and dated and the Po was real honest/trustworthy, but they got nothing to show but that it's super clean and has the dealer paperwork. I feel like first two numbers shouldn't be that far out of line if it only has 18k. I mean thats a pretty shoddy piece of equipment if its that far misaligned after so few miles. I know thats not a sure thing but the first digits offset or offset more every time i've seen one roll over, and I know this one left the factory lined up like they all did. The pedal covers would probably be a good indicator even though if it's 18k they would have pushed that clutch in more than a few times already but the brake pedal should still look pretty fresh. I got the burb at 260-270k or somewhere in there and the first two digits were about as far off as they are in the pic of that truck. On the burb the numbers lined up perfect again literally right as it rolled 300k but they were off considerably from the time I bought it till then.

My burb wasn't in quite that good of condition as that thing when i got it but it still really popped when you got in because it's all been redone well and was kept well. it would have been easy to believe the 60-75K on the odo when I got it. And it went to GM for every single hiccup or cough until he blew the IP decided to restore the truck so he had the interior done and a reputable diesel mechanic swapped the motors for him then back to GM to have the new style A/C setup. Anyway the point of all that crap is that if you walked up to my burb right now all 5 digits are lined up perfect, the interior is in great shape still and generally looking at the motor/trans/axle they're all clean and nothing leaks oil and such the engine compartment and undercarraige were clean so you might believe the mileage was correct (I still wouldn't but I'm a skeptic)

Lots of people keep them in garages the whole life of the vehicle and a lot of people drive trucks that they use like cars so no reason the "factory" color coding wouldnt still be on the axle etc if they drove it lightly and didn't wheel it in gravel all the time. All my vehicles were one owner before me and all them had at least 150k on the clock because people have a lot more than 18k miles use in a vehicle over 40 years. Not sayings it's impossible, but when was the last time you heard of someone parking a vehicle with so few miles on it and no paperwork to prove it beyond the dealer paperwork which was in the bottom glovebox of two of my three trucks too. Most of my engine compartments are that clean or can be cleaned to that point.

I may be doing that truck an injustice but unless they have some paperwork they aren't mentioning there is no way to prove the mileage on the clock. I've lived in the city for the past 8-10 years and seen a lot of fantastically lightly used cars some even older than this truck but they still look really great and they never get dirty beyond road grit in the course of 40 years, so it follows they'd be pretty clean. One of my clients has a 66 caddy that was the first car he bought new and it still looks like it just pulled out of the dealer it was well under 70K miles the last I saw him and its only going to sit more as time goes on and parking in SF gets even worse. Anyway like I said it may be an honest to war chief 18K and I'm just an ***hole...

Ya The only way that has 18 grand is if it were parked since jan 78. In ND that like a months worth milage see this all the time. nice but like said do the math. that's less than 500 mi a yr.

Re: nice 77 K20 18,000 milies (not mine)

As a builder myself, I'd have to say that obviously its been garaged BUT-the condition of the seatbelts (lack of fraying on edges), super clean bed floor, hinge and door striker wear, pedal pad wear, amount (if any) pitting on the front end as well as paint chips under the rear wheel tubs as well as the inside of the wheel opening lips would suggest extremely low mileage or not. Obviously with anything over 100K miles would have a severely worn door striker bolt. If its GM OEM and very clean with next to no wear, I could believe its only 18K miles without seeing supporting documents.

Having said that though- I am an options guy and I wouldn't pay high money for it unless it had some really nice options.

Awesome! It would be really cool if I'm wrong it would definitely be the least miles I've seen on something that old that wasn't hidden away on purpose by a collector or whatever.

Yah I am sure Mecom is going to go out of their way to try and scam this truck over on someone, do you think they don't have a stack of paperwork to show the history of this truck??? They makes millions selling this stuff, they don't through junk out there and hope for the best...

Sharp truck, thanks for posting!

Re: nice 77 K20 18,000 milies (not mine)

I went to the auction tonight and looked that truck over.. It was in amazing original condition. No doubt it's 18k claim. It bid to $15,500, but didn't sell.
