1972 C20 leaf spring differences

I have a 1972 C20 with leaf springs. The truck is a Custom Camper and lists "1G5010 Heavy Rear Spring" on the spid.
What is the difference between these springs and a standard C20 leaf spring?

I think all they did was add an additional leaf to the pack

Most likely they have one more leaf, but odds are that the pack is completely engineered differently. It should be designed to carry more load but most likely not ride as stiffly as just adding another leaf. But ya' never know...

Right now the truck sits a few inches higher in the rear than the front. I am trying to get it to ride closer to level. If I replace these springs with standard ones, will that let the rear come down a little? Or will it only affect the ride height when loaded?

Early Classic Enterprises sells a longer shackle that will lower the truck either 1" or 1 1/2" depending on the mounting hole you use. That gives you some flexibility in how much you lower it as well. Cost you $75 and that's what I would recommend.

I did the same on my '70 GMC 2500 I used to have. It was still just slightly higher in the rear after using the hole that lowered it the lesser amount. With no reduction in load capacity. My truck was rated 7500# for the platform and 7500# as equipped so it had the max rated components all around.

Standard C 20 leafs are 2000lb, optional leafs are 2750lb or 4150lb. The 2000 ride pretty well empty, 2750 a little ruffer, the 4150 must ride like a tank.

I'm guessing these are the heaviest of the bunch. Going over bumps this thing is about like the rigid frame chopper I used to have.

So the C20 springs are the same width as the C10s?

Curious also, a C10 lowering shackle will fit a C20?

The 2x4 69-72 trucks are 2 1/4" wide leaf springs. At least 1/2 and 3/4 ton. The Longhorn and 4x4 trucks are 2 1/2" wide.

But a C20 and a C10 will use the same lowering shackle.
