Just wondering how many guys have the title for their s10 frame. Or if it's that important?

Re: vin #

I don't but it might matter depending on what state you are registered in. I have 3 trucks sitting on S10s but all are titled as ADs.

Re: vin #

I've got the title and vin tag off my s10 as I know the DMV here will want it to write it off the books and to ensure that some offroader doesn't use it to circumnavigate a Vehicle Inspection...

But that's here in BC...

Re: vin #

I asked some questions at the DMV about my Suburban and they said that they prefer them to be together but I got the impression that as of right now they don't really care. I do have the vin and title for my s10 frame so I will probably do it anyway in case they make it mandatory someday. I think it is a good idea to do it in case you sell it later to someone from a state that will need it.
Did they ever replace that inspector guy in Pocatello yet, the lady in Idaho falls is a real pain in the a$$ to deal with. The DMV told me I would have to go through her to get it done, I would rather try someone somewhere else.

Re: vin #

The reason I'm asking is because I want to buy a frame off a guy but he has no title and the vin# says it has a lean on it.Suck. The dick here is still a guy. I talked to him once. I need to talk to him again. He seemed to say parts don't need titles. Kinda wish e wash e.

While its true that parts dont have/need titles.. its also true that any part off a stolen car is a stolen part.. and in some cases the police may confiscate an entire vehicle for containing one big stolen part, like an engine or frame...

now is it stolen? depends.. if he doesn't pay off the loan, then it will become stolen. period. when you owe on a vehicle, you don't own that vehicle.

considering the large number of non-issue S10s out there, i would find a different donor.

Re: vin #

I have the title for my s10 but in all reality the DMV has no idea what Im building nor do i think they care. They will take it out of the system, like Thadious said. I have the title for my '50 as well. The Vin tag is all they really care about, at least here in my county. With that said, I probably woundn't buy something that has a lean on it or any that has any issues like that. You should be able to find a complete s10 for a few hundred bucks. In Kentucky you dont even need a title to purchase a classic vehicle as long as it has never been titled in KY. I received a project title in just a few days. Once my truck is ready for the road, I have to get a sheriff inspection, insure it, register it and then the DMV issues a clear title.

Re: vin #

Either way... no matter how you look at it... it's better safe than sorry, especially for such a major critical part. Besides... it's not like S10 frames are a rare part to find...

Re: vin #

It seems that ones with titles are. Everyone around here gets title loans on them, then parts them out? The guy wanted 250 for the frame and running gear. The price seemed right?

Re: vin #

Hmmmm... I paid $400 for a complete 91 and sold off most of the parts that I didn't need, made most of my money back and will come out ahead once I get this engine sold.

Keep in mind that paying a little more might not be too bad if you can part out the rest and recoupe some of it back and end up with a title. Of all the things you will be keeping, think about what you actually need from the initial S10. Hind sight for me... the rolling chassis, minus the rear axle (you'll want a 4x4 one anyways, mine's from a 2000 Jimmy.), brake booster, brake pedal and hangar, gas tank (just the tank) and that's pretty much it.

You may find that going to a local Pick-a-Part may net you what you need for the same or less and not have a lien on it.

Big risk if you ask me, especially for the backbone of your rig....

Just my 2 cents,
Ted.

PS Come on up for a drive... we can find you one around here with a clear title for that price!

"you'll want a 4x4 one anyways" Why do I want a 4x4 one? I'll keep looking. Did you use the wiring harness or buy one? My Grandma lives there maybe I'll kill two birds. $400 Canadian that's like $200 Us right. I was born in Vernon BC

Re: vin #

4x4... as in the rear end...not the frame... 2" wider on each side...

Vernon kid eh?

I grew up in Kamloops and spend my summers at the cadet camp in Vernon!

Now military... full time... 22 years and going...

Cheers!
Ted.

PS The dollar is on par now...

Oh... and I used the wiring harness from the S10, but stripped it for just the chassis and tossed in a Painless for the computer stuff.

Re: vin #

Lmao... a poser...

The front... standard 2wd S10, low backspacing and possible wheel spacers...

I'm trying to find stock parts to swap in to fix that... but only have the top control arms researched so far....

Ted.

Trying to find a 2wd S10 around here is hard too. I've got a 4x4 frame under my Suburban. Going for a Syclone\Typhoon.
