70 C20 Special Interior

I always thought my C20 had Houndstooth interior, but I believe it is some special interior. Had one person call it Gray Insert.

Can anyone educate me on this interior.

Thanks Dan

Can't educate you on it, but it is one I have never seen before. Good luck finding the fabric to restore it if that is the direction you are going.

Kieth:

Don't think so, but thanks for responding. Seats have a fabric insert, much like a Houndstooth (but different material) with embosed vinyl.

I know they were original. Truck was made in Canada, but purchased new in US. But a lot of trucks were made in Canada then.

It is the typical Z62 Custom/CC&A or Custom Deluxe seat cover.

Re: 70 C20 Special Interior

SS Tim

That answers my question. Looks like my truck had that custom interior, for that is my seat, and my door panels are like the ones in the picture with the wood trim at the top.

Is it rare for a C20 Custom Camper to come with this interior. I had never heard of it before.

Thanks to all.

Re: 70 C20 Special Interior

I wouldn't think rare. Custom was the mid level trim package in 1970. Probably made a large abundance of them. Custom camper was another option, like the custom comfort and convenience package. A lot of 3/4tons were ordered with custom camper package

Your SPID should confirm the trim level along with color and type. Its probably 601 BLACK CLOTH TRM and Z62 CUST COMF & CONV EQ

Being a first upgrade from base trim it (Z62) is common and as a group Z81 Custom Campers tend to have the Z62 trim on about 80% of the SPIDs I see. It makes sense with the trucks being sold as RVs and second cars, that the family appeal of cloth ensured a lot of trucks were optioned with it.

Re: 70 C20 Special Interior

"BLACK CLOTH TRIM"
I had that seat cover in my '72 C20 Deluxe. I decided to just get a stock vinyl seat cover to replace it. Too expensive and takes too long to get one made like the original. And it doesn't really add much to the truck's value unless you are going for super original.

Re: 70 C20 Special Interior

Considering location and how much vinyl scorches the back of your legs mid-summer if you ever wear shorts.

I've had all vinyl and with cloth inserts, and I think the cloth insert seats are much more comfortable - personally. Just my 2 cents.

The fact that Tim (Truckseats) has one ready to go seems to make this an absolute no brainer to me.

In order to save everyone's eyes from reading upside down, here you go. That, my friend, is one NICE truck. C20 Custom Camper Custom Deluxe with marker lamps, tach, and west coast mirrors - the list goes on. Very nice.

Re: 70 C20 Special Interior

Thanks Jacko. Will be going back with the fabric insert seats like new. Truck did not have a headliner, but think I will add one. Also think I will add carpet.

Is comming along fine, Just got engine torn down (276,000 miles) will take a total rebuild, but looks good inside. Body work done, Paint will not be all white like when new, but will be what I want.

Re: 70 C20 Special Interior

I just bought a 69 c20 custom camper and it has this great Cloth fabric insert Original seat. The vinyl has come apart but the fabric is excellent going to have seat reupholstered with new vinyl or maybe leather using original cloth fabric insert. Here is the SPID also.

Like that material, great color. Close to the same truck. I think his style of interior just a little character to a truck.

Jocko, I agree 100%. I put a Cheyenne Super seat cover in my truck with the cloth insert, even though my truck is a Cheyenne (not super).
The main reason was to get the cloth.
Even with A/C, the heat of summer requires the 'breatheabilty' (is that a word) of cloth for comfort.

Re: 70 C20 Special Interior

Just a thanks to all of you that helped on my truck seat. Got it done today.

Not in the cab, but in the bed of the truck. Trans and motor this week, maybe able to do more to the interior in couple of weeks.

Thanks again
