Soft top - do they stretch over time - tension adjustable

I am planning on installing my soft top soon and trying to come up with a way to avoid drilling in header. Love the idea another member had and will buy one as soon as they become available. In the meantime I am looking for a hardtop I can cut down to use the leading edge. If I do this will the top stretch over time and should I mount the snap bracket so it adjusts the tension?

Mine hasn't stretched, however, it is much more pliable when it is warm.
