Polyurethane Bushings/ Mounts

Hey guys, I was thinking of replacing my mounts and bushings with polyurethane bushings and mounts. Summit racing sells a kit by Energy Suspension (or something like that) and I was wondering if it was worth it. So is it worth it or should I just go with fresh rubber bushings/mounts instead?

Re: Polyurethane Bushings/ Mounts

you have no idea how squishy stockers are. it will be a massive improvement, if your limeted with a budget I recommend saving for the urethane, if the rubber was good more poeple would use it right?

Very true, feels like I'm driving a basketball or something on the worn out stockers. Just wanted to get some input, before I ordered the kit.

Getting a kit that has cab mounts, engine n tranny mounts, and other various suspension bushings for both front and rear.

Re: Polyurethane Bushings/ Mounts

engine mounts arent really neccasary, the trans mount since it gets more wear is a good idea to replace, just remember alot of the suspension bushings such as a-arms and leaf spring bushings may have to be pressed in by a mechanic at a shop

Find the part number on summit and plug it into amazon. Will probably save you quite a bit, I found the best prices on the suspension bushings there.

Ditch the poly!! Use polygraphite bushing!! I have all off mine with polygraphite. Motor mounts, a-arms, sway bar, and transmission mount. You feel like marble in a can with the ride!! Great response and they hold great!!

Don't run urethane motor mounts on a driver. Street / Strip hot rod OK but you will really feel the motor. Its not as bad as solid mounts but close.

Yeah, I've heard this before. I might run rubber engine mounts. My tranny n motor mounts are pretty worn out, judging by the way the engine "tugs" while I'm at a red light.

Re: Polyurethane Bushings/ Mounts

I am running poly motor and tranny mounts with fresh rubber body bushings and poly sway bar bushings. Truck is pretty smooth and quiet.

Re: Polyurethane Bushings/ Mounts

I bought my front end kit at PST Performance.
http://www.p-s-t.com/trucks.aspx

I added motor and transmission mounts. I like them very much. When going around a hard corner, my truck does not give or sway onto the turn. The tires start to squeal before the suspension gives. Follow my ZZ4 install link to pictures of my suspension build up.

Re: Polyurethane Bushings/ Mounts

INSIDIOUS '86, I'm not positive, but I believe the one linked is urethane. I used a similar kit on my K-20 and the cab mounts squeaked. The kit was a big improvement over the blocks of wood that were wedged between the frame and cab, but the squeaking was irritating.

Re: Polyurethane Bushings/ Mounts

x2 on the Amazon comment. I bought my energy suspension bushings for my leaf springs there recently, saved a ton of money.
I did energy suspension polyurethane cab mounts on a truck I built years ago. Had them in for two weeks and hated them! It was like having metal to metal. Truck rode like a train. When I was removing them to put stock rubber replacements in, I saw one was already split. New rubber gave the truck the ride and handling it was supposed to have, felt like new. After all, they are supposed to be cushions. I didnt even want to use it for my new leaf springs, but its all that was available for aftermarket springs. I definitely wouldn't do it again on body mounts, in fact I'm surprised so many people here like them.

I just ordered a Prothane kit for my truck. Seems like positive feedback from switching to polyeurathane. Can't wait to fell the difference.

Re: Polyurethane Bushings/ Mounts

I did the whole thing on my 85 that I built and although it will handle very well, it will also stiffen the ride. I liked them but I didn't have the tranny and engine mounts was told the tranny mounts can break the tranny mount on the tranny, don't know never had it

Yeah, I'm looking for a stiffer ride instead of driving a truck that has a lot of body roll.
