Happy 50th Birthday to the 72 model year

Fifty years ago this month my Blazer was assembled in St. Louis. Happy birthday to all the 72's in the crowd!

Oh yeah, that's right. The '72 hits 50 this year. Here in Maryland they issue permanent tags for 50 year or older vehicles. Cool to know my '72 qualifies now

50 years ago this month I bought a new 72 Cheyenne C10. I wasn't old enough to sign for it.

Not quite I guess. Had to be 21 back then, right? I was 17 in '72. I tried to test drive one but was denied. My dad was going to go with me but never ended up having the time. I wasn't going to buy one anyway, just wanted to drive one. B

Congratulations, Other Larry, on your 50 year anniversary of driving/owning '72s. Next year will be my 50th. It was April '73 when I bought my first. I want to start a new threat for truck stories called "My Truckbiography" for members to post their personal truck experiences. Watch for it at your local news stand!

We've got enough "threats" on here, you don't need to start a new one....

Lol you may feel old but Larry is old mine hits 50 in the first couple days of june.

It is hard to believe that the sqaures are coming up on 50, and the 88-98s are getting closer to 40. They both are the trucks of my childhood. My ‘57 is 65 this year.

I saw this post last night but fell asleep before I could respond. Didn't fall asleep because I'm getting old, understand . Maybe because I was tired, I thought you were calling my new thread idea a threat, which called for a better thought out clever reply. Thinking on that put me to sleep. Not because I'm getting old, understand. Now I get it, I made a typo! zzzzzzzzzzz

Long story, relates to the 50 year thing. Read if you like, or not:

I'm a hard head, right? I needed to renew my drivers license by my birthday July, 2020. Had to make an appointment and wait a month, thanks to the virus. So that "real ID" bullscat required that I brought in all this extra documentation. So I get screened at the door, pass the virus test and now showing the documents. The last thing I'm pulling out is my birth certificate. Since I was about to turn 65 I made the comment as I'm pulling it out, "Now this thing is old". Ha Ha, right? NOPE! Before I even get it out of the envelope she says, "They won't accept that". WHAT??? "This is my birth certificate, embossed gold seal and all." The document all my identity has been based on since 1955. This is how I got my drivers lic, my SS card, AND credit! So I can tell my creditors that ain't me. must be some other guy with the same name? Anyway, I got turned away and that gave me a serious attitude.

I try calling the number to order this "other" birth certificate right there in the parking space. After waiting a half hour I get a recording saying heavy volume, try later. Couldn't say that a half hour ago?? I tried other times, same thing. Well, due to the virus, our governor had passed an emergency order that let expired registration and licenses remain valid until order was lifted. I slacked up on it until Aug '21 when they e-mailed me saying the order was being lifted and I better make an appointment to renew my license. So I ordered the birth cert and call to make appointment.

That's when I was told, because it had been over a year that my license had expired I had to take the whole driving test over again. WHAT?? So I was cut slack on the expired license but not on the one year expired thing. And that's my story about how I had to take the drivers test at 66, 50 years after taking it at 16. I passed!! In '71 I took the test in a '71 Plymouth Fury land yacht. In '21 I took it in a Toyota Rav4. I had people cheering for the old man passing the test

My short version of that is, I went through a traffic check with no problems. A week later my wife asked me when my license was due to get renewed. I looked at it and it had expired two years ago. Needless to say I had to take the driving test. The officer that was conducting the traffic check didn't even notice it, or he just didn't want to deal with it..... I had a CDL but I just let it go since I really didn't need it any more any way.
