250 New Thermostat Housing?

I apparently cracked my thermostat housing while installing a new temp sensor. Does anyone make a new one? I'm not having any luck finding one. All I see are the water necks but nothing on the lower housing.

Anybody know where to get a new one?

i got a new one a year ago. forgot where but it wasn't difficult

Do you know the correct terminology then? I've found a couple of used ones on eBay but nothing new.

Everything keeps popping up the upper water neck.

I have one that has sender under the thermostat that I can not get off..I've gotten to the point of crushing it
And I'd like to get another one to put my temp in

If was in head and although it was in engine coolant stream but I experienced over heating then light comes on when I turn key off then on..
Would believe thats not best to measure from..

My question is if stream comes from pump up thru thermostat then what's best to measure from.. below the thermostat or above it in the water neck to the radiator??

The best place to measure it from is in the head. That will be the first location to overheat with or without coolant and will give you the earliest warning. The next best place would be in the intake. My least favorite place is the water neck. if the thermostat sticks shut, you won't notice it. And unless you drill a hole in the thermostat, putting a sensor directly below the thermostat is no better because again if the thermostat sticks shut, you will have a dead spot where circulating coolant won't reach very quickly. Lack of coolant won't register at all.

Where in the intake does it go..
So in the stock head location is truly the best place or does the heat from the head or stock exhaust mess with the temp gauge regularity ..
With it being in the head, does it run dry or create bubbles when it's running low?

I have a gauge (now a new one) and seemed to work.. did say I overheated a couple times without aux fan but worked one day turning off 210* then on it pegged past 240, off then on and died at 90*

What would one in the water neck read?
I have an aux fan but would like to go with a clutch but I don't have room

On a V-8 for example, it can be installed in the intake.

There are no coolant passages in the intake of an inline 6.

On the Chevy 6 cylinders the temp sending units were only put in two places, the bottom of the thermostat housing or on the intake/exhaust side of the head which proved to lead to misreadings.
As stated, there are no cooling passages on the stock intake. They are exhaust heated. If you purchase an aftermarket then you could tap into the water jacket, but that wouldn't be an accurate reading either.

In front of engine on the thermostat housing wind from the fan and underside might cool the sensor down a bit. However, it's a negligible amount and a degree + or - won't make much difference. Put it wherever is best for your application.

Best place is the thermostat housing. Known to be the most reliable.

sharkskinman, since I'm not an expert on this and if you're really concerned about which position is the most accurate, I'll bow to TJ's post for it being on the t-stat housing.

Mine is on the head and I've never had a problem with it there. Biggest problem I had on my truck was an old, clogged radiator. I put a two row one in years ago and installed an overflow tank. Now it stays at t-stat temp even on hottest 100° plus days here in Texas.

For a gauge, or CTS, under the thermostat.
For a 'oh crap I've overheated it' idiot light, the head location works fine.

Seems to me close proximity to the exhaust manifold is what throws head located sensor off. As seen in the pic above.

Employ a sheet of sandpaper on flat surface to ensure the gasket surfaces are clean & true.

Also ... "water neck" may help broaden your search.
