OE antenna

Hello,
I'm looking for a picture and a source for the factory original radio antenna that might be found on a 1960 Chevy truck.
Also what would be the correct factory radio to install?

Thanks
-Zetan

Re: OE antenna

There's a few versions of the original antenna depending on which year it was for, it had a different base below the cowl extension. The parts above are all similar for all years of this series.
The location on the cowl extension varied as well between years. I'll go out on a limb here and say 60-63 was centered going front to back and 64-66 was located more towards the hood.

Radio was similar to this but with tubes. 1963 was the first year in the trucks for transistorized.

Re: OE antenna

Got this oe repop antenna at classic parts, Found the cowl drill location on a previous post and used the template that came with the antenna for the fender extension.

Re: OE antenna

Is that side trim on a step side? Was that a dealer option? Do you have any photos of the back where it wraps around the back of the cab?

Re: OE antenna

Here ya go, trim is stock but was mostly missing when I got the truck. Maybe because the truck has the deluxe package or someone put a stepside on a fleetsde. I just use the fleetside trim from classic for replacement.

Re: OE antenna

Believe you should be looking for a 1960 template vice a 1966. There are 3 OE antennas for our series: '60-'62, '63 and '64-'66 and I know for a fact the hole location is different for '60-'62 as compared to the other years as I just installed my OE '62 antenna into what I thought was a correct hole in the cowl only to find the antenna slanted about 45 degrees off plum. I used the template that came with the antenna and it now looks like it came from the factory -- of course I have an extra hole I have to deal with now! I can scan the template that I have if you want it.

Re: OE antenna

oh, didn't know that, the antenna is a 60-62 that I have and is going on my 60, yea scan that would be perfect thanks that's why I didn't want to make a hole off center, I also did that to my nova years ago and was in the same boat thanks

Re: OE antenna

Here's a scan of the template that I used. I threw in the ruler so that you can size it up properly to print out. If this scan is too small (had to resize it to meet the forum's picture size policy) I can e-mail the original scan which is a much larger file. Cheers and good luck!
