Thumbs up Wired!!

I have been working on our son house and a golf cart the past week. I have actually been working on 2 carts. I have 1 loaded on the trailer to take back home in the morning to work on it at home next week and install some batteries I have for it.
I have the other one here at the beach that I picked up from Jeff who is a member here and I started on a complete rewire of it. I got it running and will finish it up next weekend when I get back. I plan on driving the Ramp truck back down here for the big car show in a few weeks so I can haul them both to the show.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Nice looking cart. I would be tempted to paint it though.

Re: Wired!!

A flat fender jeep model would be nice

Needs to have motors to all four wheels, though.

Not at this time. I told him he needed to have a roll bar built behind the seat and make a removable Bikini top to mount to it.

I almost bought one back a few years ago. That would be cool with electric motor.

Ok it's back up and running. I finished the basic wiring today. Still has some custom stuff to finish but it's on the ground and running.

Remote key switch is done.

Re: Wired!!

I watched a video this morning about a sailboat with electric inboard motor (replacing the original diesel) running off 48v 8x6v batteries. I think they said it used a golf cart motor.

Recharged with windmill or shore power. Also had a 12v system for the cabin running off a solar panel.

Jeff came and got the cart Monday morning. He was very happy with it. He has owned it almost 2 years and Monday was his first ride in it under it's own power. I think he will be very happy with it. If he doesn't sell it.

Re: Wired!!

I'm getting so frustrated that if you weren't so far away, I would try to get you to convert my Jeep to electric!

Take out the engine and a/t and bolt a motor up to the front of the transfer case, and put a rack of batteries under the hood ...?

What seems to be the trouble man. Just take a break from it.
I wired up a Ezgo today that the owner fried all the wires to the lights. It took about 4 hours but I got him back up and running.

Just keep working through the list of things needed, from critical to convenience, but more things keep going wrong. Now oil pressure sensor leaking oil out the end and reading low, plus at least one wheel cylinder leaking now. Don't suppose I'll ever get down to fixing the window motors and tailgate struts, etc.

No break, we use it every day back and forth to the barn. Alternative would be another $15K-$20K for a side by side

Thanks I do love doing it. I'm making a trip to Key West in May. I have 2 people already wanting me to stop by and look at their carts that don't run. Both are ACG carts. I will stop on my way back home and see what I can do with them. One guy says he has had a dealer look at it 3 times and has over $10,000 in vested in it and it doesn't run!!!

Re: Wired!!

I have given thought to golf cart repair work over the years however there is one big cart dealer & repair already in town so I never went that direction. I don't golf so I have no idea if a 2nd repair biz could make it around here. Suppose I could buy a used one to fix up and resell now and then.

Re: Wired!!

I'll bet if the only repair option is through the dealer, that you can have a nice little side business fixing carts.

Unhappy Re: Wired!!

I do OK. I make side money doing it. I like helping people out. I have flipped close to 300 carts I would think and fixed at least that many.

I have been offered jobs at cart shops but I don't want the head aches that go with it.

I'm working on this one now and it's been a tough one. I was just going to add the shackles to the rear end to lift it enough to clear the rear tires and install a speed motor. 1.5 hr job. It's turned into a full week job now waiting on parts. The bushings where all froze up and I had to cut them out with my saws all. The motor wouldn't release from the rear end and I had to hammer it off.
So now I wait on parts to reinstall it.

Andy, I was actually responding to Boog, but I didn't make that clear. Pretty interesting though, what you do, and that particular cart looks like it's getting a thorough going-over from you.
