Grab a core from a local dismantler....or
Buy one of the many available from national suppliers...but before you do.... What year is your truck? Engine size and mods? Power adders? Management system? Rear gear ratio? Rear tire size? General use of the truck? Street or mixed street strip? Budget...afterall, speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?

tried a couple dismantlers around town here, seems that they want "rebuilt" pricing for a well used one.. so the search continues. thanks for the replies,

Re: Searching for a 4L80E Performance Transmission in AZ or surrounding area
the truck is a 2012 silverado, it has a 4L60E, Last year I got a great deal on a brand new in the crate 6.0 so I did the swap a couple of months ago and added a stage 3 TSP Cam with a LSA Supercharger and at only 5psi of boost with the stock pulley and mild driving the trans only lasted 2200miles. I did not even run it hard since i was trying to be easy and break-in the motor in a bit before I hammered on it, i knew it wasnt going to last but the trans was fine before so i figured i would run it till it broke, so now im looking for the next upgrade... i know its going to cost me so i want to do it right.

Re: Searching for a 4L80E Performance Transmission in AZ or surrounding area
If you would like to read a comprehensive article on swaping a 4L60E over to a 4L80E here is a link...this a 2WD conversion....
http://www.ls1truck.com/forums/front...rans-swap.html The ECM will need to be reflashed to suit the 4L80E....plus some pin out changes and a speedo pigtail change. The article mentions some excellent upgrades to the 4L80E, so look for these components in any trans you decide to buy.

Re: Searching for a 4L80E Performance Transmission in AZ or surrounding area
Locally I've had a few 4L60E's built for my LS swaps. Not the HP that you are running. My local trans guy charges me about $400 for a core that he rebuilds with all the "good" parts. The local salvage yard wanted $900 for 4L60E with 125K on it.
The issue with 4L60E and 4L80E is that most are 4WD. Not the end of the world you just need a new tail shaft and 2 WD housing. I haven't bought one but check out Performabuilt transmissions. |
