Proper horn button installation??

I've never had a horn button in my 68 beofre. either i just ran a hot wire from a hot post to a button on the dash and then to the horn and HONK there you go or on the new 68 just use a scredriver and cross that little springy thing to the center and HONK.

I break down and buy a horn button from the jnk yard. 5.00 and all the stuff under the button

I got the button, little bowl looking thingy, the plastic ring, the 3 screws that hold that down and that little fierce looking disc that goes below that.

I put them in that order and a short keeps happening from the bowl to the nut that holds the wheel down. what's the missing factor here??

thanks sswj

Damn mine doesn't work either!!!!! 'Course mine's the '70 style wheel with the plastic cap. When I push the button it pops back like it should but there's something not making contact inside. I DO know that if you tighten the three screws on that plastic thing down too tight it won't release and it will stay shorted.

Just put the horn togather on my son,s Blazer. Here's how it goes:
1--wafer spring in 1st-cup side UP (outside edge rides on plastic part of wheel-hence no ground)-3 holes lined up with 3 screw holes.
2--metal cup with plastic insulator inside.
3--put metal cup with plastic insulator legs thru holes in wafer spring.
4--install 3 screws and tighten.
5--touch battery cable back to battery post (you did remove it before you started didn't you?). If horn blows lossen screws a little and center the wafer spring where it goes around the steering shaft nut.
6--If this does not work don't blame me, blame MURPHY
