Re: old 350 vs lt1 350

I'd go with the "old" SBC - the lt1 has ignition issues (optispark) and if you're going to change heads your choices are somewhat limited. Find yourself a later, roller cam block and have at it.

Re: old 350 vs lt1 350

I used to have a stock 350 my dad put in an lt1 and it has been nothing but problems. It runs really hot baked the seals and even with an oversized radiator it's hot. I removing it right now to place a rebuilt 350 as original

Lt1 good for a racer or seldom cruises. Bad for daily or rush hour or long trips
At least in my experience It could also be really poor work by the "mechanic" who installed it with all the upgrades he never upgraded the distributor etc. Pics on my burb build thread. Project pacific wonder

Re: old 350 vs lt1 350

I used to have a 93' Z28 with an LT1. With 135k miles on the engine it dyno'd 292HP at the rear wheels using chip, CAI, and exhaust. Make sure to get the optispark that has a vacuum line connection. The earlier versions were sealed which resulted in carbon fouling. The vacuum line helps keep it clean.

Re: old 350 vs lt1 350

Tommym, I have had a couple 95 LT1's never had any trouble with them. They do run hot but are designed to with the factory tune. I had one in this 69 Camaro with a six spd trans, I got 29mpg once on a trip...
