rock auto gas tank?

I'm looking to buy a new gas tank for my 69 SWB stepside. I found a spectre (sp?). They list for about $150.00. I was set to order it but the notes said no filler neck included. Is this true or a typo? Has anyone ordered one of these tanks? Thanks.

Filler neck is included. Bought one for my 72, couldn't be happier. If you need to filler neck grommet be sure to procure it from board vendor Wes at Classic Heartbeat.

My current tank is rusty inside. I figured a new one will save a lot of hassles

Re: rock auto gas tank?

Most tanks are made overseas and not always a perfect fit.. The spectre tank is made in Canada and fit perfect. Which was the deciding factor in my purchase a little over a year ago. The price with the 5% discount code found on this forum made it a real no brainer. Not sure why anyone would repair an old tank when the spectre can be at your door for a good amount under $200.00.. Buy the spectre and have no regrets.. Just make sure you get some water based lub to assist when installing it with the grommet. I used astroglide.. Just make sure you tell your partner why you have it.. Her finding astroglide in the cab of your truck might cause some unwanted issues

Re: rock auto gas tank?

I renewed my old tank because I wanted to save it if I could. I go with original parts whenever possible as a matter of course and that was an original part.

I also didn't know if the spectre tanks were perfect fits and I knew my old tank certainly was.

To the original poster: if money if the main factor, and spectre tanks fit as the above-member has promised, then a spectre tank will be the better choice.

I absolutely agree with what you said.. I should have clarified about the condition of my tank when I got it from the P.O.. If the tank did not have small holes and poor attempts to fix them I prob would have cleaned the tank and tried to sealed it.. Original is the way to go all day long but in my situation a new in the cab tank for sure was the way to go.. Fuel headaches are no flaming joke

Re: rock auto gas tank?

Of course you agree Scottcoda, because great minds like ours think alike.

My tank had flash rust was all. The radiator shop owner told me my "tank was much better than most he gets in there."

Once I get some repairs to my house caught up I hope to get back on to my truck's fuel system. Once those new lines are (finally) in I can put the tank back in, followed by the seat, the cab to frame bushings, bleed the brakes, but the new radiator in, and it's off to the DMV for a license.

So Scott, you have a long wheel base stepside? Those are so cool!
