Sun Tach and the K-20

Some more work done this week end on the K-20..... decided on a bracket to mount the tach on the column rather than on the dash top. looks cleaner here i think..............easier to route the wires too.

The tach is an original Sun that I found on E-bay and had it retro -fitted for modern ignition sending rather than the oldschool sending box that Sun used.

Wow, that looks great. How much trouble was it to 'retrofit' it? I didn't know one could do that.

Re: Sun Tach and the K-20

I have one that looks like that on a shelf in the garage. My dad pulled it out of a 62 Bel-air before it went to the scrapper. Does it have a seperate control box that mounts under the dash also ?

I saw a complete one for sale at a swap meet for 400 bucks last year. Are they really worth that kind of money? I have been saving it for my street rod project.

Re: Sun Tach and the K-20

No trouble at all....................just send it in to the restorer guys and send the bucks along with it. I was lucky to find one in such nice condition. It has all of the indications of never having been used. The chrome case is in perfect condition. The tach came in it's original packing box too!!
Part of the decision to not mount it topside on the dash was to keep it "outa sight/outa mind" from parking lot thieve types.
It is just a little too much of a precious piece to put out for all to see!

Mine was purchased for 200 without the box thing. Then i sent it off to spend another 200 so it won't need the box thing. Keep in mind that the old box was a mechanical type relay device that ran off of batterys . My tach is now like any other modern tach set up. fully self contained.

Looks nice. I like the horn button, too. Same as what was on my '68. Time to work on the fuel gauge .

Is it some sort of secret on where you had it done? If not how bout some specifics please. I have a tach Im going to put in my panel the same way you have yours mounted. I wouldnt mind having it updated to more modern internals.

Re: Sun Tach and the K-20

Forget the tach, I'm interested in having a fuel gauge that reads past 'Full'!!

j/k The tach looks perfect! I have had a Sun Super II mounted in the same spot for many years... yours looks more period correct.

Re: Sun Tach and the K-20

I never liked my tachs there.. too much glare from the light on the windshield. I normally tossed a hat on it when cruising at night or early in the morning.
Looks sweet though.
