Need tips and torque specification

Heys guys:
as some of you know I am in the process of changing my exhaust pipes and mufflers. since this is the first time I am doing it i would appreciate any tips regarding instalation to prevent any exhaust leaks. By the way, how do you check for exhaust leak? also what is the required torque for bolts at ram horns to the pipe connection? When I was removing the old pipe I noticed that there was two sets of nuts on each bolt (at the ram horn location), also some of them had more than couple of washers on them! any idea why?
Thanks.

the best way to find a leak is to look for black carbon on the outside of the connections. If it is leakin at the manifold to head connection it should discolor the paint around the conncection

Thanks for the reply. Do you know how tight the flange should be? Do I have to tighten them again after few days?

About three grunts. Retighten after a few heating and cooling periods.

Two nuts? Maybe somebody got tired of retightening them and put them on as lock nuts. I just had to replace the metal ring gasket on one of my pipes where it meets the manifold. I just tightened them back about as tight as I could.

Thanks guys. I just wanted to be sure since the flange is very old looking I didn't want to break anything due to excessive pressure.
