Have you seen

I am sure some of you have seen this, I thought its pretty neat because I want to keep the factory dash look for the most part and keep it uncut. Here you have the factory look with the modern twist http://www.customautosound.com/

Re: Have you seen

I have seen those. I'm planning on keeping my truck relatively stock with a few upgrades, and one of these radios will be in my truck.

Before you buy one do a search on here. Almost everyone who has one doesn't like them.

I agree, if you don't want to cut the dash put the radio in the glove box or somewhere else.

Re: Have you seen

The glove box has its drawbacks but if you get one with a remote then its not so bad. I'm thinking of a DVD deck now but a little short on $$$. Plus side is that its hidden from thieves

An old 50's transistor radio glued into the dash would sound better then those things......

Re: Have you seen

I bought the USA 6, it was a real piece of junk. DONT BUY ONE!! I put it in the day I got it, and the light was burned out and the knobs stuck way out from the dash and I couldn't adjust them. I had to ship it back to them for repairs, and when I got it back the light worked, but still the knowbs looked very out of place. I ended up having it dropped shiped back to them and got my money back. A friend of mine also got one for his corvette, it also sucked and he sent it back. I have not heard anything good about them, and wish I would have known this before I paid for one, and installed it twice, and shipped it back twice. I now have an original am-fm which was worth every penny.

Re: Have you seen

I am going to put the Pushbutton back in the dash and put the cd player with remote either under the seat, under the dash or in the glove box.
Those remakes look cool but I have heard they donīt work like the good ones.

Re: Have you seen

Ahhhh, the old "cut the dash or put in a crappy unit" dilemna.

I debated this very thing and decided that I'm gonna cut the dash. It will be a very precisely done event, with me not wanting to destroy the dash, just make it possible to install a radio that can be enjoyed with the sounds I want to hear. I don't consider it to be a butcher-job.

If you want to consider what has been butchered in the past, I've seen dashes cut to install radios that were never intended to be installed in any other vehicle than the one they came in. There are people who never saw the radios that were "factory" for a '55-59 Chevy truck, or a 55-56 Ford car, or any of the others that were designed before we actually had some standardization. The DIN-series radios are common and replacements are readily available. The two-knob radios are nostalgic, at best. If you have an AM/FM that is stock for our trucks and you want to use it, go for it. I don't have the deep pocket that would hold the money to buy one, and it ain't stereo, anyway. With a non-stock stance, non-stock paint, non-stock interior, I ain't going for any Concours judging.

If it is your truck, do what you want with it. I'm 60 years old, and too old for peer pressure to be an issue, any more.

Well I feel like I am in good company then ChevLoRay, at just 37 I decided the same thing; my truck, my CD player, my hole in the dash, my listening pleasure!

I precisely cut my dash for a good deck. One of the best moves I made for my truck.

Re: Have you seen

It's funny to me folks get so worked up about cutting the dash. No one cripes when we switch to HEI, or add disk brakes, or switch wheels, or the other ca-jillion ways we alter from stock.

Unless you're driving a museum-quality truck, saw-zall away... just do a good job and make us proud.

All that said- I didn;t cut my dash- I have one of those custom sounds things. It's not-so-good and it was not-so-cheap. I went that way because I was not sure I could have done a clean dash-cut & I'm really not much of an audiophile.
