Frame rail width?
Hi guys, got a question for you guys. Does anyone have the exact measurements of a 72 4x4 blazer frame across the front wheels and also 76 two wheel drive pickup? I am looking at converting my 4x4 blazer to two wheel drive since I have my jeep to beat around in the brush in. A friend has 76 two wheel drive frame I can get cheap and want to make sure the width would be the same or if I have to find a 72 two wheel drive frame. Thanks for the help!

Lots of guys have converted 4X4 Blazers to 2X4. You will need the frame horns also to use as templates to drill the holes that you will need to drill to mount the front crossmember. You can use one up to 1987. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Hey WES I think he wants to use the entire frame setup from the 76 model frame, not just the front crossmember.

72CSTC5 you are wright, he wouldn't want to use the entire frame. Not at least on a 2 wheel drive. That would require the use of a body lift... It would be a lot better to just use just the front crossmember... I hope that I didn't throw confusion into the situation...lol WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Just wondering if the widths of the frames above the front wheels are the same between the 76 2wd pu vs 72 4wd blazer. I know how to handle the rearend (flipping the axle and set pinion angle as a step until fullfour link and air bags) and how to route the steering and such just need to know whether I can utilize the 76 crossmember or if I need to hunt down a 72 crossmember. The chart with the measurements show the frame widths at 28" above the front wheels, whereas measuring my blazer I get roughly 28 1/2" (motor is still in blazer so can't get the tape measure perfectly flat between the two measuring points).

If you want to just change out the front crossmembers they will fit. I used an 87 suburban crossmember complete in my 2wd Blazer.

Thanks guys for all the info! Want to get my ducks in a row before I tear into a perfectly fine 4x4 to satisfy my streed rod fetish my JEEP Wrangler can't fulfill.
