Usually any good radiator shop can clean it out for you.

Re: gas tank cleaning

the rad shop is the best easiest way to go//you can get not bad results by removing sender and using a power washer to loosen stuff up

Re: gas tank cleaning

I got quoted about $75 by a couple of radiator shops. Some of them can do a sealer afterwards for another $75.

I think I am going to try the power washer first, though.

Re: gas tank cleaning

Someone suggested if you really are masochistic and/or cheap and refuse to use a radiator shop, you can blast the inside of it to the best of your ability, toss some river rocks inside it, roll it around in the yard a little bit, slosh a gallon of diesel around in it (roll it around in the yard, dump it again), then slosh around a couple bottles of rubbing alcohol really good to dilute excess water, dump it and let it air dry for a couple of days - this will remove all of the water from the tank.

honestly, from what i understand, radiator shop is the fastest, easiest way to do it and the one close to me quoted $60 to clean and seal it.

Re: gas tank cleaning

If you can get your hands on a steam cleaner, and steam it out for a couple hrs, that'll get all the rust and crap out, then you pretty much need to seal it with something.
That's how we do it in our rad shop at work.

Re: gas tank cleaning

I've used the rock method a couple times on an old mustang gas tank, and on my 72 GMC gas tank. But I would try the steaming method afterwards for a proper clean.
